Community Grants

 

2009-2010 Recipient

Arden Shore Child and Family Services, to purchase new linens and dinnerware for two community-based group homes that they run. These homes serve boys with emotional and/or behavioral disorders by providing a safe, structured and nurturing environment.


2008-2009 Recipients

  • Evanston Youth Job Center, for their Strategic Corporate Alliances program, which is a three-week job training program designed to help young adults with multiple barriers to employment prepare for the workforce and secure full time employment that leads to economic self-sufficiency.
  • Porchlight Counseling Services, which provides resources and counseling to college sexual assault survivors, for 5 months of group therapy sessions at no charge to the client.
  • Rebuilding Together North Suburban Chicago (formerly known as Christmas in April), which preserves and revitalizes houses for low-income homeowners, to provide supplies needed for home repair such as roofing, plumbing, or electrical repairs.
  • Youth Choral Theater of Chicago, for their performance of an inter-disciplinary concert for peace and reconciliation, a reflection on the lives of mothers and children in Rwanda and Darfur, which is based on the journey of North Shore resident and New Trier graduate Clementine Wamariya, a child survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
  • American Lung Association of Illinois – Greater Chicago – Asthma Adventure Camp, which provides children an opportunity to learn about their asthma and disease management in a fun outdoor environment with expert medical supervision. The campers have a 46% decrease in missed school days, 44% decrease in unscheduled Doctor’s visits, 82% decrease in ER visits and a 74% decrease in hospitalizations over a 12 month period.
  • Nurture (Nutritional Upgrading Realized Through Underwriting, Resources and Education), which provides low income families with the resources and education necessary to provide healthy, home-cooked meals that can be prepared on a limited budget with limited resources within a limited timeframe.
  • Evanston Art Center Generation F-Stop Program, which combines photography and journal writing workshops for low-income Evanston pre-teen girls that helps the girls to learn to express themselves in new ways, increase their self-confidence, recognize their positive family role models and make art a lasting and meaningful part of their lives.
